To install a specific version of CMake (e.g. cmake-2.8.9) on Ubuntu 16.04 32-bit without interfering with newer versions of CMake already installed on the system, you may consider the following steps:

.bashrcAdd an alias to the file so that it can be called with a simple command (note: I am calling it as root):echo 'alias cmake="/opt/cmake-2.8.9/bin/cmake"' >> ~/.bashrc

This way, every time you entercmake2.8, this specific version of CMake will be called.
